Corsica trip - 2020 - 29th-6th Septembre

CRETE - Loutro Chania - 18-27 AUGUST 2018

We will go to Crete this Summer, Aristo's home and a beautiful site for Freediving. Check the pink boat on the bottom right of the pic below marked 'Gavdos'. This is 'Chora Sfakion' where we will take a ferry/boat to Loutro.

Chania is the best airport to fly to although Heraklion could work.

You would need to get to Chora Sfakion by Taxi or Bus then take a ferry to Loutro. Check in the map above, left of the National Park 'Samaria'. Loutro is on the right side of the below shot but we will stay in one of three hotel on the left side. It all remain at a walking distance from Loutro but is a nice laid back place, close to trekking area to break away from the water.

We will stay at three hotel: Taverna Akrogiali, Nikos Restaurant Small paradise, Georgoshouse. They are all very close one form another. You will see above the yellow part on the left side are the three hotels below. Rooms are about Eur 35 per day for two.

In terms of depth, we will have the following options in Loutro and in the bay:

• Depth of Loutro and Christos

• Loutro Bay - 30-50 meters protected by South West dominant winds.

• Christos and our hotels bay - we can paddle to the 50-100m area shown at the bottom who is about 200m from the shore.

I strongly recommend that we hire a second boat for 6 people ( I have one for our family). Emilien has his license and Valentin seeking to get his before the holidays. With a 80HP, we can visit the island south of our location (1 1/2 hour boat or the Samarian Gorges) which are both exceptional.

Cost for a boat is Eur 130 per day at Hora Sfakion - so about Eur 25 per person plus gas but it makes a different experience to the trip even for a limited number of days: 3-5 days. We need to decide quite soon as they go fast and I have a pre-booking at a very friendly rental place in Hora.
